SmartWay International Conference

Dates: Tuesday, December 2, 2008 through Thursday, December 4, 2008

Location: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Hosted by SmartWay Transport and U of M SMART (Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility Research Transformation) and UMTRI (University Of Michigan Transportation Research Institute).

EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership is an innovative public/private program designed to encourage voluntary adoption of fuel-saving and greenhouse gases-reducing technologies and strategies in the freight sector.

The successful development and continued growth of the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership has spurred interest from governments, NGOs and academics around the globe.

In an effort address this growing interest, EPA is hosting a three day conference, "The International SmartWay Transportation Summit...Transforming the Global Supply Chain" to support other governments and agencies in developing "SmartWay-like" programs.

Please join us for this conference designed to:

  • Provide interested countries, NGOs, and transportation leaders with the tools, information and best practices needed to establish "SmartWay-like" programs in their own countries and region
  • Explore effective strategies for addressing environmental impacts of global goods movement
  • Promote sustainable urban goods movement as a key component of urban transportation
  • Explore new methods of more transparent data reporting and more refined Supply Chain GHG reporting
  • Facilitate continued dialogue between countries and governments regarding the expansion of the SmartWay principles into other sectors of transportation

REGISTRATION IS FREE.  Please register each attendee separately. Attendance Limited to 135 participants.

EPA's Transportation and Air Quality program protects public health and the environment by regulating air pollution from motor vehicles, engines, and the fuels used to operate them, and by encouraging travel choices that minimize emissions. These "mobile sources" include cars and light trucks, heavy trucks and buses, nonroad recreational vehicles (such as dirt bikes and snowmobiles), farm and construction machines, lawn and garden equipment, marine engines, aircraft, and locomotives.

SMART (Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility Research Transformation) is an inter-disciplianry initiative that focuses on sustainable transportation and mobility in city regions of the world. It is a projects of CARSS (The Center for Advancing Research for Society) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
